The Nursery

We finally finished the nursery. All the decorations are hung and furniture arranged.  All we need now is a baby.  Baby Hesty is due in three days, but not showing any signs of making an appearance. Brett and I are enjoying our last few days as a couple, but excited to meet this little person soon.

We feel extremely lucky to have a nursery full of furniture and decorations from family and friends. It gives it so much more meaning.

The crib is from my cousin, Liss. It was her daughter Emily’s and she so generously passed it on to us.

My mom made the rag quilt to match the bedding.

The arm chair is from my parents.

This antique washstand was refinished by Galen, my father-in-law. Brett and I have loved the piece for years and are excited to use it as a changing table and dresser.

This chest of drawers is another piece refinished by Galen. He found it at a garage sale and transformed it.  I loved it when I first saw it and am so excited to have it in the room.  Thank you to Lynn and Galen for letting us have these two beautiful pieces.

My parents went on camping trip through Utah and detoured to Colorado to pick up the furniture for us and deliver it to the Bay Area.

The painting was commissioned by my sister from a family friend in Grants Pass, Marianne Nielsen. It is similar to one Marianne did for my sister before her son, Gabe, was born.  Nikki wanted Baby Hesty to have a special piece for the nursery and requested it have an airplane in it for Brett.

The bird house was custom built by Galen to be used as a night light.

The bookcases were custom built by my dad. My mom inspired the design and my dad made it a reality. They fit perfectly under the window to accommodate Baby Hesty’s growing library collection.

The white birds were a decoration from my baby shower, hosted by Erica Benthin.

The artwork is also from my shower thrown by Erica. She had each of my friends write a note to Baby Hesty about what they hoped  he or she would do, become, achieve, etc. The notes were such a sweet idea that I decided to include them in the nursery.  I painted the frames to match the mobile.

These last two are my projects. They are magnolia branches I found in our neighborhood and decorated. I made the bird mobile and another wall hanging for a more rustic element.

Thank you to our friends and family who helped make the nursery so special. It is such a tranquil place and I know Baby Hesty is going to feel right at home.
